ITHAKA has reached an agreement with Springer Nature to include Scientific American on JSTOR.

Scientific American is the authority on science and technology for a general audience, with coverage that explains how research changes our understanding of the world and shapes our lives. First published in 1845, Scientific American is the longest continuously published magazine in the US. The magazine has published articles by more than 150 Nobel Prize-winning scientists and built a loyal following of influential and forward-thinking readers. The archives of Scientific American include articles penned by Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Jonas Salk, Marie Curie, Stephen Hawking, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Stephen Jay Gould, Bill Gates, and more.

JSTOR will offer the complete run of Scientific American from 1845 to 2012, with new content added each year. Scientific American will be included in the JSTOR Life Sciences collection, where it joins more than 150 other esteemed publications including Science, BMJ: British Medical Journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and many others. The addition of Scientific American expands JSTOR’s coverage of a broad range of scientific fields, and will additionally benefit interdisciplinary researchers working across the humanities and social sciences.

Scientific American is a pioneering publication that translates scientific developments for a broad audience. We are delighted to be able to include it in the JSTOR corpus and make it available to students and researchers around the world,” said Laura Brown, Managing Director of JSTOR.

“Since 1845, Scientific American has shared the wonders of science with lifelong learners,” said Scientific American Editor in Chief Mariette DiChristina. “We are proud to work with JSTOR to make our content accessible to a broader audience.”
